walking

Here's some of the things I saw yesterday on my walk around the lake. Every night I specifically look for a beaver and a fox. I haven't seen any foxes around the lake for awhile, but I did see a beaver yesterday. He was just munching on some sticks. Unfortunately the pictures are a little grainy, but the beaver's really cute! The bridge is about 30-40ft from the beaver dam. I took some pictures from the side of the stream (pic below) and some from the bridge. I bumped into our first counselor and his wife on the bridge and had a great time getting to know them a little better. Just because I know you all care: the lake walking area is not secluded, there's a lot of families walking around it, and I do not go walking after dark. Unfortunately these days, no area can be considered completely risk free so I do pay attention to my surroundings and try and use some common sense. Hopefully by the end of the week Lance will be joining me on my walks. And he has a much better camera!

New Home

Since we're living so far away from everyone time to start up the blog again. It's been about 2 full weeks of paperwork everyday. I'm hoping to be done with that by the end of the week, but we'll see. I finally started organizing the upstairs last night. We have 3 small bedrooms and the smaller 2 were completely full of unpacked boxes. A lot of the stuff just needs to be gone, there's all kind of knickknacks from our high schools or even before. We don't need all that stuff, but I don't want to throw out stuff that is really memorable to Lance. So I spent the whole day yesterday throwing out my stuff and combining/stacking boxes. I'm happy to say the 2 rooms are now only lined with boxes on the perimeter and it is now possible to walk into the rooms. Yay! That will make sorting and unpacking much easier. Hopefully Lance will be moving in this week! For those who don't know I moved out here, but Lance had to keep living in the detachment until certain ridiculous paperwork was signed. Really it's taken about 2 months to get it taken care of and I'm hoping this week is the end of it. It's been a bit frustrating!

This place is very beautiful! One of my favorite places out here is a tiny lake that is full of wildlife. Lance usually comes home for dinner and after I drop him off in the evening I go walk around the lake. There's lots of Canada Geese, ducks, groundhogs, turtles, bunnies, rats (swimming in the water), snakes and course squirrels. There's also lightening bugs which are new and magical to me. We had one in our house last night and I was so afraid it would die in the house I caught it and threw it out side instead of smashing it. I didn't want it's light to go out. There's lightening bugs everywhere at the lake, very fun. There's also a beaver dam at the lake and I walk by it every evening to try and see a beaver. I've seen one a handful of times. I decided to start taking my camera on my walks, but I went at a slightly later time last night so it was too dark for most pictures. Yesterday I saw a deer and a cool toad. It's like animal planet in 3D. Awesome.

This is long because I have a lot of updating to do! Sorry. Our cat Kayley has adjusted very well. There's a ton of weird bugs around here and at least one gets in the door every night. She loves eating bugs that get in the house. She's started a very interesting habit that took me awhile to figure out. Every night in the middle of the night she would come in our room meowing really, really loud for some strange reason. At first I thought maybe she was lost so I'd call her over and pet her. A couple of days ago I decided it was really annoying so at midnight when she came in meowing I decided to ignore her and teach her to stop. I was lying as still as possible when I felt something like a stick on my legs. I gave up and went to see what it was. Well, it was Kayley's string on a stick toy. She wanted to play. That explains why I find that toy next to my bed every morning. Apparently Kayley gets the urge to play around midnight and drags up her stick toy from downstairs. Then she sits and meows to inform me of her desires. What a funny cat we have. I'm going to lock all her toys in the closet at night!
