Gettysburg

Here's some pictures from Gettysburg. We started out the trip with a short film at the Visitor's Center, the museum and the amazing Panorama. The Panorama is a huge, incredibly detailed 360 degree painting of Picket's Charge. Unfortunately, the Visitor's Center only allows guests to see the panorama for a very brief period of time, but it was amazing. You truly felt surrounded by the battle. We then went on an audio driving tour (thanks Ben!) of the battlefields. We got out at most of the stops and spent over 6 hours alone on the driving tour. I will never be able comprehend the immense sorrow and grief of the Civil War and how such horrific battles came to be.

This statue is dedicated to the Union Commander at Gettysburg, General George G. Meade. Meade should sound familiar to some of you (Left). We took a lot of pictures (Right).

This area was defended by the Union as the Confederates charged across the open field during Picket's Charge (Left). The fields around Gettysburg are so beautiful I can't imagine the horror that raged across them during the 3 days of fighting (Right).

The Confederates had to march across this field almost a mile to the clump of trees I'm pointing to during Picket's Charge

A canon ball hole still visible in the barn
